The healthcare industry is facing shortage of professionals in many sectors. Eligibility!

The course is open to students who have completed their higher secondary course. Students should have taken science subjects to apply for this course. They should have studied physics, chemistry and biology in their higher secondary and should have got a minimum of 60% in the qualifying examination. There are no national entrance examinations conducted for entry into the course but some institutes conduct their own entrance and counselling to admit students.

The Course Design!

Medical laboratory technology course is also known as clinical laboratory science. The students learn about diagnosing diseases using lab tests. These lab tests are essential for prevention and treatment of diseases. In this course for MLT the students learn to perform diagnostic analysis using body fluids. They perform bacteriological, immunological, hematological, microscopic tests which aid in diagnosis and in prevention of the diseases. They also learn to handle advanced equipment during the course.

The course develops their communication, analytical, logical and reasoning skills. These professionals need to write reports on a daily basis and they should be good at that. They collect, store and record samples and all these are taught to the students. They also learn about lab management and ethics during the course.

Subjects!

Biochemistry, human anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology and serology, blood banking, parasitology and virology, diagnostic cytology, diagnostic molecular biology, endocrinology and toxicology are just some of the subjects of the course.

Fees!

The fees vary with institutes and it starts from 2 lakhs to 6 lakhs for the whole course. Renowned private institutions charge a higher fee while at government institutions it is less.

Placements!

Most of the students are placed before course completion and they are absorbed as lab technicians, clinical lab scientists, virologists, etc. They can also try in big Rand D firms.
